Standard issue Station Red uniform
All recruits will be issued two (2) upon their arrival in addition to their normal clothing.
Every new arrival will receive an implant that serves a number of functions. It will not be felt and has no negative effects (beyond the initial possibility of headaches, nausea, swimming or blurred vision, and the strange visual or auditory glitch...all of which should go away within 48 hours). Chief functions include;
- Retinal HUD, display images, or text
- Audio communication
- Translation; audio only (cannot translate written text in a book for instance)
- Tracking physical location
- Monitoring vitals (although the current technology allows for 'dead' or 'not dead
Wrist mounted interface, standard issue
In addition to the implant, all arrivals will be given a removable, wearable wrist-mounted interface to interact with their retinal display. It's own display is simple, limited to text and can be customized with a dazzling array of two whole colors.

Red Shift is panfandom, mission-based campaign-style roleplaying game based around a structured plot with emphasis on player involvement and worldbuilding that will impact both the narrative and the way characters interact with the setting. Science fiction, with a black sense of humor and a healthy dose of surrealism, Red Shift is a game about the perils of bureaucratic capitalism...at least at first.
All inhabitants of Station Red are provided housing in the form of habitation suites. Built for three people, these cozy accommodations come complete with three berths (the height of luxury, you are assured), generous built-in and somewhat hidden storage space, a small bathroom, complete with a cramped shower, and a tiny common space complete with sink, table, and something that appears to be a food-storage unit. No, there is no stovetop or microwave unit; unfortunately if you want to do your own in-house cooking, you'll have to find a hotplate (If you’re lucky, the commissary will have one in stock, and at a reasonable price).
Your lodging is yours to do with as you will. Gussy it up, cram it full of knick-knacks, or leave it bare; it’s up to you.* Though, we recommend you clear it with your roommates first. All habitation suite disputes will be handled by your case worker, and will almost inevitably involve to usual paperwork.
*Do not touch the cameras. Do not tamper with the life support sensors. Do not attempt to make modifications to the tele-screens. All permanent and/or serious damage to the habitation suite will be added to your bill.

Ask away! Generalized questions will help us build our FAQ, and may be added there, but specific questions regarding game elements or a character are welcomed and encouraged as well!
Questions will be screened until responded. (If you prefer your question remain screened, please note it in the subject line!)
A vast, barren wasteland of sand and rock, with no visible source of light and lightning storms chasing the horizon. There are rusting cars, broken ships, abandoned desks, even a bed or two--whatever the ‘guests’ were touching when they were pulled in came with them, much of which was left abandoned.
Nothing electronic works. Whether it’s the place itself or the act of coming through that fries the circuits doesn’t matter; your car/computer/cell phones are useless. You can still choose to take them; not every desk lies intact, and grooves suggest others have determined to take their things no matter how difficult the task might be. But I would suggest you hurry--those storms seem to be coming ever-so closer.
There is possible shelter from the oncoming storm: a single building, just within sight. I’d start moving, if I were you.
Home sweet home. Also known as the quarantine zone. A re-purposed military bunker, it's origins, history and location are unknown. Currently mostly under lock down, Station Red was hastily turned into living quarters for the new, unexpected immigrants.

Activity check happens on the first of every month, and will be open for one week. All threads that began in the active period will be applicable; (ie/ activity check beginning Feburary 01 will encompass all threads that began between January 01 and January 31). Threads may continue past this point, so long as they were begun in the correct month.
Players are required to submit any three of the following activity proofs:
- A log thread with at least five (5) comments from your character
- A network thread with at least five (5) comments from your character
- An IC inbox thread with at least ten (5) comments from your character
In addition, players will submit a summary of their characters' important activity each month. This will help give us a better feel of what you and your character are up to, outside of just a couple threads, and help us make better decisions about steering the plot! This can be as long or short as you feel is necessary, but ideally will be at least a few sentences, and up to a couple paragraphs.
Bonus activity will be announced in the near future!
Create a post for your character using the code below, with your characters' name and canon in the subject line.
All future AC for your character will be posted as a comment to that post each month. Please put the activity check month in the subject line.

APPLICATIONS WILL OPEN 02.01.16
Name: The name or handle you prefer to go by
Over the age of 18? What it says on the tin. Redshift is a game that deals with mature themes and has a hard player age limit of 18 years old.
Your preferred contact: Let us know what the best and preferred way to get ahold of you is (dreamwidth journal, plurk, email, etc)
Other Characters: If applicable
Name: The character's full name in western order
Canon: Please list the canon your character is from; OCs list "original". Please note if your character is a CRAU, fandom OC (see FAQ), malleable protagonist, etc.
Canon point: The canon-point from which you are taking your character.
Age: There is currently a minimum appable age of 10 years old, relative. If mental and/or physical age are different, please note that here (ie/ character appears 20 but is actually 200).
Species: Your character's species.
Appearance: You may include one (non-GIF) image here. You may include a brief physical description, particularly if your character is from a non-visual medium, an OC or has traits that may not be immediately noticable from a single image. There is no length limit, but this is not considered integral to your app and keeping it short and sweet would be ideal!
Background: Your character's setting and history as are applicable to understanding them. Canon characters may include a wiki link to both if one is available, while players apping original characters will need to include a write up of each. Setting merely needs to give us an idea of the type of world your character is from, whereas history will give us an idea of what they have been through. This doesn't have to be a blow by blow of their life's events, but should focus on the events that shaped or were otherwise important to them.
Personality: The most important section! Tell us what your character is like: what makes them who them are, their quirks, their fears, and preferences. What kind of person is this, and what kind of presence do they have? Explain their strengths and weaknesses. We want to see a well-rounded description of a character, and one that exhibits a solid understanding of them. Assume we don't know the first thing about them, even if they're from a popular or well-known canon! It's not REQUIRED, but references to instances or events in their canon, such as in the history, are a great way to illustrate what your character is all about.
Abilities/Skills: In a list format, provide specific abilities and skills of your character, with a brief description if necessary. This should include supernatural abilities such as magic, but also technologically based abilities, such as if they are wearing power armor. More 'mundane' skills should also be noted (fighting ability, skilled pilot, great at math). Anything that informs what it is your character can do. Magic spells, powers or otherwise not-baseline normal abilities should be fairly detailed as to how powerful they are and what their limitations are. You will not be allowed to use powers not listed in some capacity here so be thorough.
Inventory: Your character's inventory. When pulled through the gate, your character will be bringing with them anything they are touching. Provide a complete list of items brought with the character. As noted on the TDM, characters will only be allowed to initially bring to Station Red the items they can carry. Please note what in your inventory your character plans on carrying with them to the Quarantine Zone....everything else will be left behind for later retrieval (specifically large objects).
While your character CAN bring dangerous weapons and armor, the caseworkers at Station Red reserve the right to temporarily confiscate anything seen as too dangerous. This is unusual, however.
Please see the FAQ for details on what can be brought with them.
We would like to see links to a minimum of two samples. These may be from any source, and of any variety, but they should ideally provide us with both examples of dialogue and prose, as well as both action and introspection. More samples is better, so feel free to provide extra links if you have them.
Please use the form below and submit your application as a link in your comment!
